Airtel Digital CEO Adarsh Nair Resigns After Remarkable Five-Year Tenure

Adarsh Nair, the Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Digital, has announced his resignation, marking the end of a transformative five-year journey with the telecom giant. Airtel Digital serves as the digital services division of Bharti Airtel, where Nair also held the position of Chief Product Officer.

Nair’s notable achievements during his tenure include scaling the Wynk Music app to a user base of 75 million and spearheading the development of various groundbreaking apps and platforms, such as the Airtel Finance fintech app, Xstream video app, Airtel IQ cloud communication platform, and the Airtel IoT platform. His innovative contributions have significantly impacted the digital landscape within the Airtel ecosystem.

Nair’s Resignation and Future Plans

Airtel has officially confirmed Nair’s resignation in an exchange filing, stating, “His resignation has been accepted on November 03, 2023, and he will be relieved from his duties upon closure of business hours on February 15, 2024.” This move brings Nair’s successful stint with the company to a close.

In his resignation letter addressed to Airtel MD Gopal Vittal, Nair expressed his deep gratitude for the multitude of opportunities he was provided during his five-year tenure at Airtel. His work has been instrumental in shaping and expanding Airtel’s digital organization.

Furthermore, Nair is set to embark on a new journey in the early part of the upcoming year, relocating to the United States.

Financial and Business Performance

Airtel’s performance continues to show strength in the competitive telecom sector. In the second quarter of the fiscal year 2024, Bharti Airtel reported a consolidated net profit of INR 2,093.2 Crores with operating revenue amounting to INR 37,043.8 Crores. The India business segment contributed INR 26,995 Crores to the revenue, with an average revenue per mobile user of INR 203 per month.

Meanwhile, Airtel’s rival, Jio Infocomm Ltd, a part of Jio Platforms, reported a 12% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit, reaching INR 5,297 Crores in Q2. The average revenue per user (ARPU) for Jio stood at INR 181.7 per month.

Airtel’s 5G Expansion Plans

Airtel continues its focus on expanding its 5G network across India. Presently, Airtel’s 5G services are accessible in 5,000 towns and 20,000 villages. The company has set ambitious goals, with plans to roll out 5G services nationwide by March 2024.
