Air India Welcomes the Future: A Milestone with the Airbus A350-900

In a historic moment for Air India, the airline proudly unveiled its inaugural Airbus A350-900 aircraft, registration VT-JRA, showcasing a bold new design that signifies a transformative era for the national carrier. The aircraft’s arrival, following a delivery journey from Toulouse, France, is a significant milestone for Air India, positioning it as a trailblazer in Indian aviation.

A Historic Delivery: Air India A350 Lands in New Delhi

The Airbus A350-900, operating under the special call sign AI350, touched down in New Delhi, marking the commencement of a new phase for Air India. Onboard as an observer was Senior Commander Capt. Monika Batra Vaidya, one of the first Indian pilots trained on the A350. This delivery is part of Air India’s commitment to rejuvenate the Indian aviation sector and follows its introduction of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet in 2012.

Campbell Wilson, Air India’s Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, emphasized the significance of this moment, stating, “The A350 represents more than just metal and engines; it embodies the tireless efforts of every Air India employee contributing to our ongoing airline transformation.” Wilson sees the A350 as a symbol of India’s resurgence in global aviation, providing unmatched comfort, cutting-edge technology, and contributing to sustainability goals.

The Future of Air Travel: Three-Class Configuration

Scheduled to commence commercial operations in January 2024, Air India’s A350 boasts a three-class cabin configuration designed by Collins Aerospace. The 316 seats include 28 private Business Class suites, 24 Premium Economy seats, and 264 spacious Economy Class seats. All seats feature the latest-generation Panasonic eX3 in-flight entertainment system and HD screens, promising passengers an exceptional flying experience.

A Growing Fleet: More A350s and a Revamped Brand Identity

This A350 marks the beginning of Air India’s order for 20 Airbus A350-900, with five more expected by March 2024. The airline also holds firm orders for 250 new aircraft from Airbus, including 20 A350-1000. Concurrently, Air India has unveiled a new global brand identity, with a redesigned website and mobile app. The highly anticipated collection of new uniforms for cabin and cockpit crew, designed by Manish Malhotra, will debut alongside the A350’s entry into service.
