WagonR Wins: The Spacious Solution to Budget Car Dreams

During the festive season, the allure of upgrading from two wheels to four is strong. However, budget constraints often keep this dream parked. For those of a taller stature, the challenge is even more pronounced, as finding a comfortable yet affordable car can seem like a tall order.

The Economical and Spacious Solution

For the average height individual, the market offers options like the Alto, known for its affordability and performance. But today, we spotlight a vehicle that has earned the nickname “the tall person’s Alto” due to its spacious interior and suitability for those with longer legs. This car has become the market’s bestseller, powered by a 1200cc engine that has doubled the sales figures of popular SUVs like the Creta.

A Perfect Fit in All Dimensions

In terms of length, width, and height, this car checks all the boxes. It stands out for its affordability and the ample space it offers. It’s a bold claim, but one that’s confidently made: no other entry-level car offers as much space. The engine’s performance is so commendable that it often rivals compact SUVs.

The WagonR’s Winning Streak

We’re talking about the Maruti Suzuki WagonR, which, in October, was the country’s top-selling car with sales of 22,080 units, a significant increase from 17,945 units sold in October of the previous year.

A Close Second

The Swift, another Maruti car, trails closely with 20,598 units sold. Maruti Suzuki launched the WagonR around two and a half decades ago in 1999-2000 with a 1000cc engine. Since then, it has undergone several transformations and relaunches. Currently, it’s available in both 1000cc and 1200cc engine options.

The Ideal Upgrade from a Bike

The WagonR is a familiar name to first-time car buyers, often referred to as the best transition vehicle from a bike to a car. In the petrol version, it offers an industry-leading mileage of 24.5 km/l, translating to a running cost of about ₹4 per kilometer, assuming petrol prices at ₹100 per liter—a manageable expense for former bike riders.

Affordable Homecoming

The base LXi model of the WagonR starts at ₹5.54 lakh, with the on-road price in Delhi being around ₹6.25 lakh. The VXi model is priced at ₹5.99 lakh, costing about ₹6.75 lakh on-road. Considering the base model, with a down payment of approximately ₹1.25 lakh, a loan of ₹4 lakh would result in an EMI of ₹8,045 for seven years at a 9% interest rate. Daily, this breaks down to ₹268. So, if you save ₹268 daily, by this Diwali, the WagonR could be at your doorstep.
