VinFast VF3: The Vietnamese Electric SUV Sets Its Sights on India

VinFast, the renowned Vietnamese electric car manufacturer, has officially patented its latest creation, the VF3, in India. Unveiled to the world at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, this supermini electric SUV is now set to make waves in the Indian automotive scene, with expectations of hitting the roads by the end of 2025.

The VF3 stands out with its distinctive design, featuring a tall and boxy silhouette coupled with a robust build and ample ground clearance. The front showcases an almost rectangular closed grille, complemented by LED headlamps and squared ORVMs. A thick black bumper extends seamlessly to the wheel arches, leading to a rear design highlighted by LED taillamps and a chrome-finished brand logo connecting both ends.

Available in two trims, Eco and Plus, the VF3 boasts a single-motor configuration. Although the specific battery size remains undisclosed, VinFast aims to deliver an impressive range of approximately 201km (150 miles) on a single, fully charged battery. The dimensions of the VF3 measure 3,190mm in length, 1,679mm in width, and 1,620mm in height, providing a generous boot space of 550 litres.

Step inside the mini electric SUV, and you’ll find a tech-savvy interior featuring a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The VF3 is set to offer connected car technology and fully folding second-row seats. Additional expected features include a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, a two-spoke steering wheel, cruise control, and dual airbags.

In parallel with the VF3’s entry into the Indian market, VinFast has also initiated the construction of its factory in Tamil Nadu. This expansive manufacturing unit, covering 400 acres, is projected to have an annual production capacity of up to 150,000 vehicles. The construction and operation of the factory are anticipated to generate employment opportunities for over 3,500 local individuals, with a total investment of Rs. 4,165 crore.
