Vinfast VF3: A Potential Game-Changer as the Most Affordable Electric SUV in India

Vinfast, the Vietnamese automotive manufacturer, is gearing up to make its mark in the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market, and its potential game-changer is the Vinfast VF3. While the company may kickstart its Indian operations with a premium SUV, the VF3 is expected to be the volume player, positioned as one of the most affordable electric SUVs in the country.

The Vinfast VF3 is a compact EV SUV, larger than the MG Comet but still falling into the smaller SUV segment. With a length of 3,114 millimeters and equipped with 16-inch wheels, the VF3 combines a compact size with a commendable ground clearance. The exterior design features a sleek grille with a black layout, distinguishing it from other models in Vinfast’s lineup.

Inside the VF3, simplicity reigns with a 10-inch touchscreen and climate control buttons below. Despite its compact dimensions, the VF3 surprises with a generous boot capacity of 550 liters. The claimed official range for the VF3 is 200 kilometers, and further details regarding the specifications for the India-specific model are awaited.

Vinfast recognizes the need to aggressively localize production to meet cost targets and intends to manufacture the VF3 at its facility in Tamil Nadu. To gain a substantial market share, the Vinfast VF3 is anticipated to be competitively priced, aiming to fall within the sub-Rs 10 lakh price bracket.

The funky design and SUV proportions of the VF3 are expected to appeal to Indian car buyers, and its competitive range could position it well against other EVs like the Tiago EV and the Comet EV. While the premium EV range might precede the VF3’s launch, its affordability and practicality could make it a significant player in the Indian electric SUV landscape.

As part of its broader strategy, Vinfast may also introduce additional EV models in the Indian market, leveraging the country as a potential export base. The arrival of the Vinfast VF3 could mark a significant step toward accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles in India.
