Unveiling the New-Generation BMW X2: Teasers Hint at a Striking Evolution

BMW is gearing up for the global reveal of the second-generation BMW X2, and early previews suggest a significant design transformation. The upcoming X2 promises to bring a fresh perspective with a sleeker roofline and a larger grille, positioning it as a stylish ‘baby’ sibling to the BMW X6. This eagerly anticipated model is set to captivate automotive enthusiasts with its eye-catching design and a host of powertrain options.

A Coupe-inspired SUV

The new-generation BMW X2 is poised for a dynamic transformation, departing from the raised hatchback appearance of its predecessor. Instead, it embraces a more coupé-like silhouette, aligning it with the likes of the BMW X4 and X6. This design shift aims to infuse the X2 with a distinctive identity in the BMW SUV lineup.

Bold Design Elements

In a teaser video released by BMW, the upcoming X2 showcases its bold design elements. A prominent feature is the enlarged grille, in line with BMW’s modern SUV aesthetics. Illuminated grille surrounds, reminiscent of the new BMW i7, enhance the X2’s visual appeal. The front end is further defined by X1-shaped headlights sporting a unique LED signature.

Sibling to the X1

The redesign underscores the X2’s role as the style-focused counterpart to the BMW X1, much like the relationship between the X4 and X3 or the X6 and X5. While it shares its underpinnings with the X1, the X2 promises a more striking exterior design.

Interior Refinement

Inside, the X2 is expected to mirror the X1’s interior, adopting a touch-control-oriented setup featuring a 10.7-inch infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch digital driver display. However, due to the coupé-inspired roofline, slight reductions in headroom and cargo space are anticipated.

Diverse Powertrain Options

The BMW X2 is likely to offer a comprehensive range of powertrains, including petrol, diesel, and hybrid variants with power outputs spanning from 170hp to 326hp. Notably, the upcoming X2 will mark BMW’s foray into the electric SUV segment, as it is set to introduce the electric BMW iX2. This model will feature a 313hp twin-motor configuration, offering swift acceleration and an impressive range of 440km.

Performance-Oriented Variants

Enthusiasts can also anticipate the return of the BMW X2 M35i, equipped with a 300hp turbo four-cylinder engine that promises a 0-100kph sprint time of 5.4 seconds. With quad-exit exhausts and sporty styling cues, the X2 M35i is poised to compete with rivals like the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43.

Global Reveal and Launch

BMW has announced that the global reveal of the new-generation X2 is imminent, with a launch expected at the end of 2023. This eagerly awaited SUV aims to build upon the success of its predecessor and continue BMW’s tradition of delivering captivating and dynamic vehicles.
