Toyota Introduces Rumion MPV in India: A Sibling of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has brought a new Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) named Rumion to the Indian market, based on the same platform as the popular Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. While pricing details and booking information are yet to be revealed, the Rumion comes with a standard warranty of 3 years or up to 1,00,000 kilometers. Notably, Toyota has already been selling the Rumion in select international markets.

To set the Rumion apart from the Ertiga, Toyota has incorporated some cosmetic changes. The most noticeable alteration is the unique front grille design, inspired by the Innova model. The front bumper also features a distinct pattern, complemented by a chrome outline around the air dam. On the sides, the Rumion showcases new alloy wheels with a two-toned machined finish. While specifics about the rear design are awaited, an anticipated addition is a chrome garnish.

The Rumion offers customers a selection of six different variants: S MT/AT, G MT, V MT/AT, and S MT CNG. Although precise pricing details remain undisclosed, it is speculated that the Toyota Rumion might be slightly pricier than its counterpart, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, which is currently priced between ₹8.64 lakh and ₹13.08 lakh (ex-showroom).

Powertrain Options

The Toyota Rumion presents buyers with two powertrain options: Petrol and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). Both variants are equipped with a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine generates a maximum power of 101 brake bhp at 6,000 revolutions per minute (rpm) and a peak torque of 136.8 Newton-meters (Nm) at 4,400 rpm. When operating on CNG, the power output slightly reduces to 86.63 bhp at 5,500 rpm, accompanied by a peak torque of 4,200 rpm. Both powertrain options come with a standard 5-speed manual gearbox.

For the petrol variant, an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission is available. Toyota asserts impressive fuel efficiency figures of 20.51 kilometers per liter (km/l) for the petrol variant and 26.11 kilometers per kilogram (km/kg) for the CNG variant.

As Toyota introduces the Rumion to the Indian market, it aims to offer a compelling choice for those seeking an MPV that combines practicality, performance, and distinct design elements.
