The Skoda SUV Revolution: Affordable Luxury Takes on the Competition

Skoda is set to introduce a new SUV to the Indian market next year, joining the competitive segment of affordable SUVs. While drawing inspiration from its larger sibling, the Kushaq, this upcoming model promises to carve its niche with distinct style and features tailored for the budget-conscious consumer.

Exterior Design

Spy shots of the new SUV reveal a blend of modernity and ruggedness in its exterior design. Sporting twin-pod LED headlights, sculpted lower bumper, clamshell bonnet, and large mirrors with integrated turn signals, the SUV exudes a stylish yet robust aura. Its crossover appeal is accentuated by strong shoulder lines, thick rear pillar, roof rails, and body cladding, reminiscent of the Taigun, especially with its C-shaped LED taillights.

Interior Comfort and Technology

Inside, the SUV inherits some design elements from the Kushaq, boasting a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, glossy black two-spoke steering wheel, and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. The dashboard and center console echo familiarity, while the leatherette seats and two-tone interior design elevate comfort and aesthetics.

Power and Efficiency

Powering the new Skoda SUV is anticipated to be a 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, delivering 113.98 horsepower and 178 Nm of torque. Paired with either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission, the SUV is expected to offer fuel efficiency ranging between 20 and 22 kilometers per liter.

Features for Comfort and Safety

Loaded with features, the new Skoda SUV aims to enhance comfort and safety. Ventilated seats, wireless charging, automatic climate control, and possibly a sunroof, including a panoramic one, are anticipated. On the safety front, standard features may include 6 airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, a 360-degree camera, parking sensors, tire pressure monitoring, and advanced driver assistance features.

Price, Competition, and Launch

Priced between ₹8 lakhs to ₹15 lakhs, the new Skoda SUV is poised to challenge popular models like the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Kia Sonet, Maruti Brezza and Fronx, Renault Kiger, and Nissan Magnite. Scheduled for launch in March 2025, the SUV aims to carve its space in the competitive Indian SUV market.
