Tesla Unveils First Production Cybertruck After Two-Year Delay

Tesla has finally revealed the first Cybertruck to come off the production line at its new Gigafactory facility in Austin, Texas. The automaker shared a photo of the all-electric pickup surrounded by the team of personnel who contributed to its construction.

The production of the Cybertruck has faced delays of approximately two years, causing anticipation among early buyers who have been eagerly awaiting the delivery of their new vehicle. The sight of the fully built Cybertruck brings some welcome relief to those customers.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently promised a delivery event for the Cybertruck in the third quarter of this year, indicating that it will take place by September. However, the company has yet to announce specific timing for the event.

While the initial deliveries will mark the beginning of Cybertruck ownership for some customers, Tesla has previously stated that volume production of the pickup will not commence until 2024.

Tesla unveiled the Cybertruck in 2019 with the target of starting volume production by the end of 2021, but the timeline was pushed back multiple times.

Reports indicate that Tesla has received over 1 million pre-orders for the futuristic-looking Cybertruck, with interested customers making a refundable $100 deposit.

Pricing details for the Cybertruck were removed from Tesla’s website towards the end of 2021. However, at that time, three variants were shown with prices ranging from $39,900 to $69,900, depending on features such as the number of electric motors, towing capacity, and range. It is widely expected that the final prices will be higher.

In April, Musk shared that he had visited the Cybertruck production line in Austin and expressed his excitement, stating, “Gonna be awesome… feels like the future.” However, he also acknowledged in 2021 that the Cybertruck’s unique design posed a risk of it being a commercial failure.

With the substantial time and investment put into the Cybertruck, the team behind its production will undoubtedly be hoping for its success in the market.
