Tata Punch Electric Faces Reality Check: Real Range Falls Short of 421 KM Claim

Tata Motors’ much-anticipated entry into the electric vehicle (EV) segment with the Tata Punch Electric has hit a roadblock in terms of real-world performance. The certified range of 421 km, a significant selling point, has been challenged by a recent real-range test conducted in Bangalore. The test results indicate that the actual range of the Punch EV fell considerably short, sparking concerns about the model’s efficiency, especially in real-world scenarios.

Real-World Performance of Tata Punch EV

In a real-world test conducted by Gaadiwaadi, the Tata Punch EV, initially displaying a range of 341 km in city mode, concluded the test covering only 189.5 km. This discrepancy between the certified range and the actual performance, even with eco mode and two passengers, raises questions about the Punch EV’s ability to match its claimed efficiency.

Technological Advancements of Tata Punch EV

Despite the real-world performance hiccup, the Tata Punch EV boasts a range of technological advancements, enhancing the driving experience. Key features include a 10.25-inch HARMAN infotainment system, over-the-air updates, a 10-inch digital multi-view cockpit, voice assistant support, wireless smartphone charger, and compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The inclusion of applications like Disney+Hotstar, Eros Now, Amazon Prime Video, and more adds entertainment value.

Safety Features of Tata Punch EV

Safety remains a priority for Tata Punch EV, featuring six airbags as standard, ESP, ISOFIX, SOS call function, rear parking sensors, 360-degree camera surround view system, and more. The IP67 rated battery pack and motor, hill hold control, hill descent control, electronic parking brake, and auto hold further contribute to the safety profile of the vehicle.

Design, Features, and Specifications

Inspired by the Nexon EV, the Tata Punch EV features a distinctive design with LED light bars, split LED headlights, and a redesigned lower bumper. The interior boasts a dual-tone theme, a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, and a spacious frunk under the bonnet. The EV is built on Tata’s dedicated acti.ev pure electric platform, emphasizing utility.

Battery Options and Charging

Offering two battery packs (25 kWh and 35 kWh), Tata Punch EV supports two charger options. The vehicle’s charging capabilities include reaching 10 to 80% in just 56 minutes with a 50 kW DC fast charger.

Pricing and Competition

While Tata Punch EV is competitively priced at 11.49 lakh INR, the recent real-range test results might influence its standing in the competitive Indian EV market.
