Tata Nexon Dominates Indian Car Market, Overtakes WagonR as Best-Selling SUV

In a significant shift in the Indian automotive landscape, Tata Motors’ compact SUV, the Nexon, has emerged as the best-selling car in the country, outperforming Maruti Suzuki’s popular WagonR. The sales data for December 2023 revealed that the Nexon secured its position with flying colors, selling 15,284 units, compared to Maruti WagonR’s 12,053 units in the same period the previous year.

Nexon’s Popularity: The facelift version of the Tata Nexon has become a favorite among car buyers, attributed to its updated design and enhanced features. The revamped exterior includes a new front fascia, redesigned LED headlights, bumpers, and taillights, giving it a modern and appealing look. Inside, the Nexon boasts a refreshed steering wheel, dashboard layout, and color scheme, elevating the overall driving experience.

Nexon’s Engine and Safety Features: Available in both petrol and diesel variants, the Tata Nexon offers a versatile engine lineup. The petrol variant is powered by a 1.2-litre turbo engine, delivering 120 bhp power and 170 Nm torque, while the diesel variant features a 1.5-litre engine producing 115 bhp power and 260 Nm torque. Transmission options include manual, AMT, and a new dual-clutch transmission, providing buyers with a range of choices.

Built on Tata Motors’ ALFA platform, the Nexon ensures excellent build quality and safety. It has achieved a remarkable 5-star safety rating in crash tests conducted by both Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP, establishing itself as a family-safe SUV in the market.

Pricing and Competition: The Tata Nexon facelift is priced competitively, ranging from Rs 6.10 lakh to Rs 9.50 lakh (ex-showroom). With four variants and seven color options, the Nexon directly competes with other popular SUVs in the market, including the Honda Elevate, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, and Maruti Brezza.
