Tata Harrier and Safari Achieve 5-Star Safety Rating: A Landmark for Tata Motors

Tata Motors, a prominent name in the Indian automobile industry, has marked a significant milestone by achieving a 5-star safety rating for its flagship SUVs, the Tata Harrier and Safari. These vehicles, recently facelifted, underwent rigorous testing under the new and more stringent Global NCAP safety protocol. This remarkable feat sets these SUVs apart as the first Tata models to be tested under the updated safety standards.

The Road to 5-Star Safety

Tata Motors has been a proactive participant in Global NCAP crash tests since 2014, with various models like the Nano, Zest, Nexon, Altroz, Tiago, Tigor, and the Punch undergoing rigorous assessments. However, the Harrier and Safari, considered the jewels in Tata’s SUV lineup, had not previously faced these evaluations. With their latest facelifts, Tata decided it was high time to submit these vehicles to the stringent Global NCAP tests, and the results have been nothing short of remarkable.

5-Star Adult Occupant Crash Test Rating

In the adult occupant crash test, the new Tata Harrier and Safari achieved a score of 33.05 out of 34 points, securing a coveted 5-star safety rating. Notable highlights include the protection provided to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck, which were rated as “good.” Additionally, protection for the driver’s and passenger’s chest was considered “adequate.”

The SUVs also excelled in the side impact test with a deformable barrier, earning “good protection” ratings for the head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis. Furthermore, in the side pole impact tests, the presence of standard curtain airbags and adherence to fitment requirements ensured good protection for the head and pelvis, marginal protection for the chest, and adequate protection for the abdomen.

The bodyshell of both the Tata Harrier and Safari facelifts demonstrated stability and the capacity to withstand additional loadings, further cementing their safety credentials.

5-Star Child Occupant Crash Test Rating

The Harrier and Safari facelifts earned an impressive 5-star rating in the child occupant protection tests by amassing 45 points out of 49. This score comprises a perfect 12 out of 12 for the Child Restraint System (CRS) installation and the maximum dynamic score of 24.

Global NCAP tested the vehicles using dummies representing an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old child, both rear-facing. These dummies were secured using i-size anchorages and a support leg, effectively preventing head exposure in frontal crashes. The CRS provided complete protection in side impact crashes. Testers also commended the presence of ISOFIX mounting points in the outer rear seats of the second row.

Tata Motors’ Tata Harrier and Safari have set new safety standards for the brand by securing a 5-star rating under the stringent Global NCAP safety protocol. These achievements reaffirm Tata’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its customers. It’s a significant leap forward for both the automaker and the Indian automobile industry, showcasing Tata’s ability to compete on a global stage when it comes to vehicle safety.
