Supercar Tragedy: Vikas Oberoi Under Scrutiny for ‘Road Homicide’ After Fatal Collision

Introduction: In a shocking turn of events, Bollywood actress Gayatri Joshi and her billionaire husband, Vikas Oberoi, found themselves at the center of a devastating supercar crash in Sardinia, Italy. A video capturing the harrowing incident, which swiftly went viral, depicted the couple in a blue Lamborghini Huracan Spyder colliding with a Ferrari. While the Indian duo emerged with minor injuries, tragically, the Swiss couple in the Ferrari lost their lives in the rollover and subsequent fire. Now, as the investigation unfolds, Vikas Oberoi faces the grave charge of “double road homicide,” a conviction that could potentially lead to a 7-year prison sentence.

Vikas Oberoi Faces Investigation: International media outlets have reported that Vikas Oberoi, who was at the wheel of the Lamborghini during the ill-fated incident, stands at risk of a 7-year prison sentence if he is prosecuted and subsequently found guilty by the Cagliari law authorities. The real estate and hospitality tycoon, accompanied by his wife, Bollywood luminary Gayatri Joshi, who occupied the passenger seat, was involved in the collision with a red Ferrari Portofino convertible during the Sardinia Supercar Tour.

The Tragic Sequence of Events: A widely circulated video of the incident captured the catastrophic chain of events. In the footage, a procession of Lamborghini and Ferrari supercars can be seen navigating a single-lane road on the picturesque island of Sardinia in Italy. Initially, a group of supercars maneuvers past a motorhome traveling in the same direction. Subsequently, Vikas Oberoi and Gayatri Joshi approach the same motorhome. Deciding to overtake it as well, Vikas initiates the maneuver. However, an untimely attempt to overtake the motorhome and the Lamborghini is made by a Ferrari Portofino, steered by a Swiss couple.

Regrettably, Vikas Oberoi failed to register the rapid approach of the speeding Ferrari, leading to the collision of his Lamborghini with the motorhome’s rear end. The impact was so severe that the Lamborghini catapulted onto the road and the Ferrari followed suit, flipping over. Tragically, the Swiss couple in the overturned Ferrari were unable to extricate themselves in time, resulting in their untimely demise at the scene.

Determining Liability: As investigations proceed, the critical question of liability remains unresolved. From the video footage, it is evident that multiple supercars, including the Lamborghini driven by Vikas Oberoi, overtook the motorhome. Vikas, upon noticing the overtaking cars, chose to follow suit. However, the Ferrari in question appeared to be traveling at significantly higher speeds, with the intention of overtaking both the Lamborghini and the motorhome concurrently.

While initial observations may point toward the Ferrari driver as primarily responsible, a closer analysis suggests that Vikas Oberoi was unaware of the rapidly approaching Ferrari and could have exercised caution. Given the rapid unfolding of events, apportioning sole blame becomes complex. Vikas Oberoi, who serves as the managing director of Oberoi Constructions, one of India’s largest real estate enterprises, was accompanied by his wife, Gayatri Joshi, renowned for her role in the movie “Swades.” The couple was participating in the Sardinia Supercar Tour, an event organized by supercar enthusiasts, involving a scenic drive from Teulada to Olbia.
