Sneak Peek: 2024 Volvo EM90 EV’s Exterior Design Ahead of November Debut

The 2024 Volvo EM90, a forthcoming all-electric luxury MPV, has already begun turning heads before its global debut on November 12, 2023. While a teaser image gave us a tantalizing glimpse of its top, showcasing features like a dual sunroof, a raked front windscreen, distinctive T-shaped taillamps, and sliding rear doors, more insights have surfaced from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Several homologation certification images posted on the MIIT’s website now provide a first look at the MPV’s exterior design. Interestingly, it bears a striking resemblance to the Geely-owned Zeekr 009, which was introduced last year.

The released images suggest that the 2024 Volvo EM90 shares its boxy silhouette, body panels, and proportions with the Zeekr 009, although it does exhibit Volvo’s signature design elements. These include ‘Thor’s hammer’ LED headlamps, a closed-off grille featuring the ‘Volvo’ logo, T-shaped LED daytime running lights, and bumper intakes that bear a resemblance to those on the EX90 SUV. The rear end sports an upright tailgate and is adorned with T-shaped taillights featuring ‘Volvo’ lettering.

While interior details remain undisclosed, it is expected that the EM90 will feature a three-row six-seater configuration, high-quality upholstery options, and individual second-row seats.

As a contender in the premium MPV segment, the 2024 Volvo EM90 will feature a rear-mounted electric motor generating 264bhp, as per information from the MIIT website. The all-wheel-drive configuration, also available on the Zeekr, adds to the performance capabilities. The EM90 claims a top speed of 180km/h.

Battery specifications are yet to be fully disclosed, but it’s possible that the EM90 may inherit the Zeekr’s larger 140 kWh CATL Qilin battery pack, delivering an impressive 882km range (CLTC). An alternative 116-kWh pack with a 702km range is also part of the offering.
