Skoda Auto Achieves Remarkable Milestone: Exports from Chakan Plant Surpass 600,000 Units

Pune, August 17, 2023: Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd (SAVWIPL), the Indian subsidiary of the German automotive manufacturing giant Volkswagen Group, announced a significant achievement as the export of cars produced at its Chakan facility in Pune crosses the remarkable 600,000 units mark. This achievement showcases the growing demand for India-made models in various global markets and further strengthens the Volkswagen Group’s global presence.

The Chakan plant, managed by SAVWIPL, oversees the India operations of several Volkswagen Group brands, including Skoda, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini. The cars produced at this facility have garnered substantial interest in markets such as Mexico, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Sub Sahara, North Africa, and other Asian regions.

“Exports from India play a vital role in our global strategy. Crossing the 600,000 units milestone is a significant accomplishment. India’s strategic geographical location and engineering capabilities have been instrumental in our growing export success,” commented Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO at SAVWIPL.

Volkswagen Group initiated its exports from India back in 2011, with models like Polo and Vento from the Volkswagen brand leading the way. These models established India as a prominent export hub for the group. The legacy of successful exports set by Polo and Vento is now carried forward by models like Taigun, Virtus, and Kushaq.

Kushaq, which is also the first Skoda vehicle to be exported from India, will soon be joined by the Slavia models in being exported to Vietnam through the parts and components route. The success of these exports is a testament to the commitment of “Make in India” for both the domestic and international markets. Piyush Arora emphasized the focus on engineering each product to achieve international excellence.

Looking ahead, Kushaq and Slavia models are slated to be exported from 2024. To facilitate this expansion, an advanced dedicated facility spanning 16,000 square meters is currently under construction at the Chakan plant. This development underlines the commitment of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd towards maintaining its steady growth trajectory while ensuring top-notch engineering and manufacturing standards.
