Renault Unveils Kardian SUV: A Global Marvel for Emerging Markets

Renault has taken the wraps off the much-anticipated Kardian SUV, a vehicle designed to make waves in emerging markets, with its primary focus on South America and beyond. The Kardian boasts a brand-new 1.0-liter, 125hp turbo-petrol engine and is built on Renault’s innovative CMF modular platform. This versatile SUV aims to meet the evolving demands of customers in emerging markets.

Embracing Emerging Markets: The Kardian SUV has been meticulously crafted with the South American market in mind, with Brazil set to be its first destination for sale. Later, it will expand its reach to regions where Renault’s compact SUV offerings, like the Kiger in India, are not currently available. In South America, the Kardian will square off against recently introduced small SUVs from competing brands, including Fiat’s Pulse. Production will commence in Brazil and extend to Morocco.

A Versatile CMF Modular Platform: Measuring 4.12 meters in length, the Kardian finds its foundation on Renault’s cutting-edge CMF modular platform. This platform is designed to accommodate up to eight different models, all tailored for emerging markets around the world.

Stylish Design Inside and Out: The Kardian makes a striking first impression with its stylish exterior design, featuring split headlamps, robust front and rear bumpers, and a prominent Renault double-layer grille. The SUV exudes a rugged look with faux aluminum inserts, a coupe-like bodyshell, increased ground clearance, and sturdy cladding on the wheel arches and running boards.

The rear of the Kardian showcases C-shaped tail-lamps reminiscent of the Kiger’s design. Higher-end variants come equipped with eye-catching alloy wheels, roof rails, a shark-fin antenna, and additional chrome accents.

The interior of the Kardian exudes a sense of sophistication, featuring a dashboard design reminiscent of other Renault SUVs. An 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system takes center stage, accompanied by a drive mode selector and a four-spoke steering wheel. The cabin incorporates faux brushed aluminum and wood inserts, complemented by a mix of piano black finishes. Top-tier variants are adorned with 17-inch alloy wheels.

A Powerhouse Engine: Under the hood, the Kardian is driven by an all-new 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine that produces 125hp and 220Nm of torque. This powerplant is paired with a responsive six-speed DCT automatic gearbox, ensuring a dynamic driving experience. In comparison, the Kiger features a 100hp 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine with 160Nm of torque, coupled with a CVT automatic gearbox.

Global Platform, Local Aspirations: While the Kardian is tailored for global markets, the Indian market has its counterpart in the form of the highly localized Renault Kiger SUV. The Kardian itself may not make its way to India, but the CMF platform it shares will be the foundation for multiple vehicles, some of which will be produced in India to cater to both domestic and export markets.

The Kardian SUV represents Renault’s commitment to meeting the diverse and evolving needs of emerging markets with innovative design, a powerful engine, and a global perspective.
