Redefining the Indian Roads: Honda’s New Models to Challenge the Status Quo

Honda Motors India has recently taken a significant step in expanding its product range with the successful launch of the Elevate mid-size SUV. Garnering over 5,800 units in sales during September 2023, the response has been resoundingly positive. As part of their strategic growth plan, the company is gearing up to introduce several new models in the Indian market over the next few years. In this article, we will explore the latest Honda cars expected to grace the Indian roads in the near future.

  1. Honda Amaze Facelift:
    • Expected Launch: Q1 2024
    • Key Features: ADAS, Honda Sensing, New Design
    • Competition: Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Tata Tigor

Honda is all set to unleash the next-generation Amaze compact sedan, likely to make its debut in the first quarter of 2024. The new model will be built upon a significantly updated version of the current platform, promising substantial alterations in design, interior, and underpinnings.

The styling of the new Amaze may draw inspiration from Honda’s latest models, such as the new City and the global Accord. It is expected to feature the Honda Sensing suite, boasting advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) like lane assist, autonomous emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. The interior might share similarities with the City and Elevate SUVs, potentially featuring a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity.

The current 1.2-liter 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine will remain an option, available with manual and CVT automatic gearboxes. This updated Amaze is poised to compete with formidable rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Tata Tigor.

  1. New Honda Compact SUV:
    • Expected Launch: To Be Announced
    • Key Features: Similar to Elevate, Multiple Engines
    • Competition: Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon

Following the introduction of the Elevate, Honda is now eyeing the compact SUV segment, with plans to introduce a new sub-4-meter SUV for the Indian market. The company may bring in the new-generation WR-V, a model currently sold in Indonesia.

This upcoming model will take on strong contenders like the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, and others in the same category. Its interior layout and features are likely to be reminiscent of the Elevate compact SUV. Buyers can expect a choice of a 1.2-liter petrol and 1.5-liter petrol engine, offered with various transmission options.

  1. Honda Elevate Electric:
    • Expected Launch: Next 3 years
    • Key Features: 400+ km range, Electric Motor
    • Competition: MG ZS EV, Mahindra XUV400, Maruti Suzuki EVX, Hyundai Creta EV

At the launch event of the Elevate, Honda Cars India unveiled plans to electrify the mid-size SUV segment. Within the next three years, an electric version of the Elevate will join the Indian market.

This electric variant of the SUV will compete with formidable electric rivals such as the MG ZS EV, Mahindra XUV400, and upcoming models like the Maruti Suzuki EVX and Hyundai Creta EV. To accommodate the battery pack and a front-axle-mounted electric motor, Honda will need to make several modifications to the platform. The expected range for this electric version is more than 400 km per charge, aligning with the growing demand for eco-friendly transportation.

In summary, Honda’s plans for the Indian market are nothing short of exciting. With the impending launch of the Amaze facelift, a new compact SUV, and the electric Elevate, the automaker is set to offer a strong alternative to the Swift Dzire, raising the bar in terms of design, technology, and eco-friendliness.
