Mercedes-Benz India Reports Record Sales Growth in First Half of 2023, Led by Top-End Vehicle Portfolio

Mercedes-Benz India has achieved an all-time high in sales, with a growth of 13 percent in the first half of 2023 compared to the same period last year. The luxury brand sold a total of 8,528 units during this period, marking the highest-ever half-yearly sales in the country. One significant contributing factor to this success is the strong performance of the Top-End Vehicle (TEV) portfolio, which includes popular models like the GLS, S-Class, S-Class Maybach, GLS Maybach, and AMG G 63. The TEV lineup saw a remarkable 54 percent increase in sales, with 2,000 vehicles sold in the first half of the year.

The Mercedes-Benz LWB E-Class remains the brand’s most successful model, and the GLE leads in terms of SUV sales. The company also reported a significant growth in its battery electric vehicle (BEV) portfolio, with sales nearly ten times higher than the previous year. The EQS and EQB electric vehicles received a strong response from customers, contributing to the brand’s overall growth.

Mercedes-Benz currently has an order bank of 3,500 units, reflecting the strong demand for their vehicles in the Indian market. The brand’s commitment to delivering luxury, performance, and advanced technology has resonated well with customers, driving their sales to new heights.

In the competitive luxury car market, Audi India also reported impressive growth with a 97 percent increase in sales, totaling 3,474 units. The demand for their “volume driven” models such as the A4, Q3, and A6 played a significant role in this success. Audi’s used car business also experienced a year-on-year growth of 53 percent, highlighting the brand’s success in both the new and pre-owned car segments.

Looking ahead, Mercedes-Benz is preparing for the launch of the latest version of the GLC SUV in India. The car was globally unveiled in June 2022, and recent testing on Indian soil suggests that its launch is imminent. The GLC will compete with other luxury SUVs in the market, including the BMW X3, Audi Q5, Jaguar F-Pace, and Volvo XC60. With its distinctive design, cutting-edge features, and renowned performance, the GLC is expected to further strengthen Mercedes-Benz’s position in the Indian luxury car segment.

Mercedes-Benz’s record sales growth in the first half of 2023 is a testament to the brand’s commitment to delivering exceptional vehicles and meeting the evolving demands of Indian customers. With a strong product lineup and a focus on innovation, the company is poised to maintain its momentum and continue providing an unparalleled luxury experience to its discerning customers in India.
