Mercedes-Benz India Gears Up for a Grand Double Launch: GLE Facelift and AMG C 43

Mercedes-Benz India is set to celebrate this Diwali season with a double treat for automobile enthusiasts. The much-anticipated launch of the GLE facelift SUV and the all-new AMG C 43 performance sedan is scheduled for November 2. Let’s dive into what these two impressive models have in store.

Gleaming Updates for the GLE Facelift

The Mercedes-Benz GLE facelift is set to make a strong impression with its refreshed styling and revamped features. On the exterior, you’ll notice a redefined front bumper, tweaked LED headlights, new alloy wheel designs, and refreshed tail-lights. Inside the cabin, the GLE facelift receives a luxurious touch with a new multifunction steering wheel, borrowed from the S-Class and adorned with touch-sensitive controls.

The interior also showcases new trim and upholstery options, an updated MBUX infotainment system that brings in fresh functions and graphics, and a more advanced version of Mercedes’ Distronic Plus active cruise control system. In India, the pre-facelift GLE was offered in three variants – 300d, 400d, and 450. The GLE facelift retains the 300d and 450 variants, but the 400d has been replaced with the 450d.

Under the hood, you’ll find impressive powertrains across the range. The four-cylinder 300d produces 269hp and 550Nm, while the six-cylinder 450d churns out 367hp and 750Nm. If you prefer a petrol engine, the six-cylinder 450 delivers a robust 381hp and 500Nm. What adds to the appeal of these versions is the 48V integrated starter-generator (ISG), providing an additional 20hp and 200Nm.

As for which variants of the GLE facelift will be available at launch, Mercedes has yet to confirm. However, it’s expected that the lineup will include at least one diesel and one petrol option. Additionally, Mercedes has introduced two PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) variants – GLE 400e and GLE 350de – in the international market, but their availability in India remains uncertain. The Mercedes GLE facelift goes head-to-head with competitors like the BMW X5, Audi Q7, and Range Rover Velar.

Reviving the AMG C 43 Sedan

The Mercedes-AMG C 43 sedan is making a triumphant return to India, featuring the W206-gen avatar. This performance sedan distinguishes itself from the standard C-Class with AMG’s Panamericana grille, adaptive LED headlights, and other eye-catching details.

Inside, the AMG C 43 receives AMG-specific digital graphics for the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and the 11.9-inch touchscreen. Other sporty elements include a leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel, sports seats, and red seat belts.

The new AMG C 43 abandons the previous model’s 3.0-liter V6 engine in favor of a more efficient 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine equipped with an electric turbocharger. Thanks to a 48V mild-hybrid system, the new engine impressively generates 402hp and 500Nm of torque, with an extra 13hp available through a boost function. This potent powerplant is mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox with ‘Race Start’ functionality, distributing power to all four wheels via the 4Matic drive system.

In addition to the powertrain enhancements, Mercedes-AMG has significantly upgraded the chassis, incorporating a revised front axle and improved braking performance. The C 43 also benefits from the AMG Ride Control suspension and a modified exhaust system, delivering the characteristic AMG soundtrack.

Competition and Conclusion

With the impending launches of the GLE facelift and the AMG C 43, Mercedes-Benz India aims to captivate luxury car enthusiasts seeking elegance and performance. These models will face off against rivals in their respective segments, promising to redefine driving experiences.
