Maruti’s SUV Revolution: A Comprehensive Guide to the 4 Models Poised to Redefine the Indian Market

Maruti Suzuki India Limited, a giant in the Indian automotive market, is gearing up for a significant expansion in the SUV segment, aiming to capture a larger share of the market. With the growing demand for SUVs among Indian consumers, the company plans to introduce six new models over the next three years, targeting various customer preferences and market demands.

Expanding the SUV Frontier

Maruti Suzuki’s strategic approach involves diversifying its SUV portfolio, aiming to cater to a wide range of customer preferences. Already making waves with models like the Grand Vitara, Jimny, and the Fronx crossover SUV, the upcoming lineup includes:

  1. eVX Compact Electric SUV: Set for release in December, this electric vehicle is positioned to compete with Tata Harrier EV and Hyundai Creta EV, marking Maruti Suzuki’s entry into the electric vehicle domain.
  2. 7-Seater SUV Codenamed Y17: Targeting the premium SUV segment, this vehicle is based on the Grand Vitara, taking on rivals like Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, and Hyundai Alcazar, with an expected launch by year-end.
  3. Micro-SUV for 2025: In a bid to capture the micro-SUV segment, Maruti Suzuki plans to introduce a small SUV to compete against Tata Punch, Hyundai Exter, and Citroen C3.
  4. New Sub-4m SUV: This upcoming model might replace or complement the current Brezza, strengthening the company’s position in the compact SUV space.

Embracing Electrification and Hybrid Technology

Maruti Suzuki is not only expanding its conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) lineup but is also making significant strides in electric and hybrid technology:

  1. Small EV Challenger: Speculated to rival the Tiago EV and Citroen eC3, this small EV demonstrates Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to electrification.
  2. Hybrid Innovations: The next-gen Swift and new Dzire are rumored to feature a 1.2-litre Z-Series engine with a strong hybrid system, potentially delivering exceptional fuel efficiency.
  3. Fronx Crossover SUV: A facelifted version with a robust hybrid system is in the pipeline, showcasing Maruti Suzuki’s advanced HEV series hybrid technology, where the engine powers a generator to charge the battery, while electric motors drive the vehicle.
