Mahindra XUV700: Waiting Times Slashed, but Still a Hot Commodity

Introduction: The Mahindra XUV700 has created quite a stir in the Indian automotive market since its launch in August 2021. Its popularity has been undeniable, resulting in notably lengthy waiting periods for eager buyers. However, there’s some good news on the horizon for those anxious to get behind the wheel of this sought-after SUV. Mahindra has been making production strides, gradually chipping away at the XUV700’s waiting times, making it more accessible to potential owners.

Eager Buyers Rejoice: Reduced Waiting Times

As Mahindra continues to scale up production for the XUV700, waiting periods have been dropping across the lineup. The base variants of the XUV700, namely the MX and AX3, are now more attainable than ever with waiting periods slashed to around two months, down from the longer delays prospective buyers previously faced. These variants are now available to eager owners in record time, at least in comparison to the more premium trims.

Breaking Down the Waiting Periods

Here’s a comprehensive look at the new waiting periods for various XUV700 trims:

  • MX and AX3 Petrol and Diesel Variants: Now sporting a mere two-month waiting period, these base trims have become an attractive option for those looking to get their hands on the XUV700.
  • AX5 Petrol and Diesel Variants: The waiting period has dropped to a modest three months, offering a quicker path to ownership.
  • AX7 and AX7L Trims: These top-of-the-line models now have a more reasonable five to six-month waiting period, down from the previously lengthy eight to nine months.
  • Optional Packages: While these optional packages for the MX, AX3, and AX5 trims continue to be in high demand, they still come with the longest waiting times, up to ten months.

Diverse Powertrain Options and Seating Configurations

Mahindra has made the XUV700 available in both 5- and 7-seater configurations, catering to different needs. Powertrain options are diverse, featuring a robust 2.0-liter turbocharged mStallion engine for the petrol XUV700 and two tunes for the 2.2-liter mHawk diesel engine. These engines offer a spectrum of power outputs, ensuring there’s an XUV700 for every kind of driver. Additionally, the SUV is paired with a choice of either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

For those seeking an extra layer of capability, the AX7 and AX7L trims offer the all-wheel-drive option, enhancing the XUV700’s versatility.

Pricing and Rivals

The XUV700 lineup starts at Rs 14.03 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base MX petrol variant and Rs 14.47 lakh (ex-showroom) for the MX diesel variant. As for its rivals, the XUV700 faces off against the MG Hector Plus, the recently updated Tata Safari, and the Hyundai Alcazar, making for an exciting competition in the Indian SUV segment.
