Mahindra Thar: Awaiting Adventure – Latest Waiting Period Revealed

Since its launch in 2020, the Mahindra Thar has not only captured the hearts of off-road enthusiasts but has also become a symbol of adventure and rugged style in India’s automotive landscape. With a starting price of Rs. 10.54 lakh (ex-showroom), the Thar offers a compelling package for those seeking a lifestyle off-roader under Rs. 20 lakh. However, with its increasing popularity, the waiting period for the Mahindra Thar has been a topic of discussion among potential buyers.

Current Waiting Period

As of August 7, 2023, the Mahindra Thar commands a waiting period that can stretch up to 18 months. This significant waiting time highlights the immense demand for the SUV, which showcases its popularity among Indian consumers. Interestingly, it’s the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) versions of the Thar that have the longest waiting period.

Different Versions, Different Wait Times

While the waiting period for the 4WD trims of the Mahindra Thar has reduced to five months from the day of booking, the RWD versions still face a substantial waiting period. This differentiation in waiting times reflects the varying preferences of customers and their choices between the RWD and 4WD variants.

Diverse Powertrain Options

Mechanically, the Mahindra Thar caters to a wide range of preferences by offering two distinct drivetrain options. The 4WD version can be equipped with either a 2.2-litre diesel engine or a 2.0-litre petrol engine. On the other hand, the more affordable RWD trims are powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine or a 2.0-litre petrol engine. Transmission choices include a six-speed manual gearbox and a torque converter unit, ensuring that buyers have the flexibility to choose according to their driving preferences.

Electrifying Future: The Electric Thar

In a move towards sustainable mobility, Mahindra has teased an upcoming variant of the Thar – the Thar.e, an electric version of this iconic off-roader. The electric Thar concept is set to make its global debut on August 15, 2023. This development showcases Mahindra’s commitment to embracing electric mobility and adapting it to the preferences of adventure enthusiasts.

As the Thar continues to capture the imagination of Indian consumers with its blend of rugged charm and capable performance, the waiting period serves as a testament to its popularity. With the imminent arrival of an electric version, Mahindra aims to take the Thar’s legacy of adventure into the realm of sustainable motoring, catering to the evolving needs of modern explorers.
