Inside the eVX Concept: Suzuki’s Vision of the Electric SUV Revolution

Suzuki has set its sights on the electric vehicle market, and the recent unveiling of the updated eVX concept at the Japan Mobility Show is a testament to their ambitions. This all-electric SUV is slated to hit the production line in India by 2025, marking Maruti Suzuki’s foray into the electric vehicle segment. The concept showcases a blend of futuristic design and innovative interior features, offering a tantalizing glimpse into the potential future of electric SUVs.

A Striking Exterior

The eVX concept boasts a contemporary and robust design. At the front, large headlights, LED daytime running lights on the grille, a muscular bumper with cladding, and a skid plate give it an adventurous and rugged appearance. The side profile reveals stylish alloy wheels, cladded wheel arches, and distinctive door design. Connected tail lamps, a sharp roof-mounted spoiler, and rugged bumper detailing round out the exterior. With dimensions measuring 4300 mm in length, 1800 mm in width, and 1600 mm in height, the concept strikes a balance between urban practicality and road presence. It rides on 245/45 R20 tires.

The Futuristic Interior

The true standout feature of the eVX concept is its interior. Embracing a sci-fi aesthetic, the cabin features a floating dashboard and a square-shaped two-spoke steering wheel. The infotainment system and digital cluster display are merged, creating a futuristic and immersive experience. While the translucent effect may not make it to the production version, the design is certainly eye-catching. The vertical layout of the AC vents adds a touch of uniqueness to the cabin, and the clean center console is adorned with a rotary dial in the center. The gear selection buttons appear to be touch-sensitive. The cabin exudes a sense of spaciousness and openness, amplified by the presence of a panoramic sunroof. While certain design details may not be retained in the production model, the overall interior theme is likely to be inspired by this forward-thinking concept.

The Powertrain

Although precise powertrain details remain undisclosed, Suzuki has announced that the eVX concept is equipped with a 60 kWh battery offering an impressive claimed range of 550 km on a full charge. It’s worth noting that Maruti Suzuki is expected to offer two variants of this electric SUV. The base variant will feature a smaller 48 kWh battery with an estimated range of approximately 400 km on a full charge. This launch marks a significant step for Maruti Suzuki, as the eVX is set to become their first all-electric vehicle. The production version is anticipated to hit Indian roads by 2025.

Furthermore, Toyota is also expected to introduce its version of this electric SUV. Together, these two vehicles will face competition from the all-electric Hyundai Creta, slated for debut in 2024.
