High Demand Leads to Prolonged Waiting Periods for Toyota Rumion in India

In March 2024, the popularity of the Toyota Rumion in India has surged to unprecedented levels, resulting in an extended waiting period for prospective buyers. The surge in demand has forced the manufacturer to halt bookings for CNG variants of the vehicle, leaving many customers in limbo.

Since its launch in August 2023 as a rebadged version of the Maruti Ertiga, the Toyota Rumion has captured the attention of MPV enthusiasts across the country. However, the overwhelming demand has led to a waiting period ranging from 28 to 32 weeks for those opting for the petrol variants.

Toyota offers the Rumion in three variants – S, G, and V, with both petrol and CNG powertrains. While the gasoline variants continue to garner significant interest, customers eyeing the CNG models are faced with disappointment as bookings for these variants have been temporarily halted.

Under the hood, the Rumion is equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol engine, delivering 103bhp/136Nm in petrol mode and 87bhp/121Nm in CNG mode. The transmission options include a standard five-speed manual gearbox, with the petrol variant also offering a six-speed torque converter unit.

With prices starting from Rs. 10.44 lakh and reaching up to Rs. 13.73 lakh (ex-showroom), the Rumion competes fiercely with popular models like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Kia Carens in the Indian MPV market.
