Hero Xoom 160: Hero MotoCorp Ventures into Premium Scooter Market with Its First ADV Scooter

In a strategic move to expand its product portfolio, Hero MotoCorp is gearing up to launch its first adventure scooter, the Hero Xoom 160. The unveiling at the recent Bharat Mobility Expo has stirred excitement among enthusiasts, with the scooter expected to hit the market in the next few weeks.

The Hero Xoom 160 signifies a significant milestone for the Indian manufacturer as it steps into the premium scooter segment, currently dominated by the Yamaha Aerox. The Yamaha model stands alone in the sub-200cc category with a liquid-cooled engine, a distinction Hero hopes to challenge with its upcoming offering.

The distinctive feature of the Hero Xoom 160 is its adventure-inspired design. The front apron boasts split LED headlights and a towering windscreen, giving it a robust appearance. The side profile mirrors a quintessential maxi-scooter, featuring elongated body panels, a central spine, and a sleek tail section. While the visuals are appealing, the true test will be the scooter’s quality, fit, and finish when the production-spec model hits the streets.

Under the hood, the Hero Xoom 160 is expected to house a 156cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. Preliminary figures suggest a power output of 14bhp at 8,000rpm and torque of 13.7Nm at 6,500rpm. These specifications are based on the pre-production model, and any variations in the production scooter are expected to be minimal.

As for the pricing, industry insiders speculate that the Hero Xoom 160 could be positioned at approximately Rs.1.3 lakh, ex-showroom. Once available, it will face direct competition from the Yamaha Aerox 155 and the Aprilia SXR 160, adding another layer of excitement to the sub-200cc scooter segment.

The Hero Xoom 160’s impending launch is awaited with bated breath by enthusiasts and industry observers alike, as Hero MotoCorp seeks to carve a niche for itself in the competitive premium scooter market.
