Harley-Davidson X440 Test Ride: Unbiased Insights from Enthusiast’s Experience

Harley-Hero’s Test Ride Journey: The Good and the Bad

As anticipation builds around the Harley Davidson X440, motorcycle enthusiasts are eager to get a taste of this new offering. BHPian Rajeevraj recently embarked on a test ride adventure and shared his unbiased observations, shedding light on the ‘Fastest Finger First’ test ride booking system and his overall experience.

Navigating the ‘Fastest Finger First’ Booking System:

Harley-Hero’s test ride system employs a ‘Fastest Finger First’ approach. Enthusiasts must secure a test ride slot, and Rajeevraj was quick to act when the booking link appeared on WhatsApp. His experience navigating this system is revealing.

The Good:

  1. Booking a slot streamlined the test ride process, especially for riders like Rajeevraj who traveled a considerable distance to Tusker Harley.
  2. Timely reminders from Tusker Harley ensured riders didn’t miss their test ride appointments.
  3. The showroom witnessed manageable crowds, resulting in minimal wait times.

The Bad:

  1. The system’s limitations became evident as only one dealer offered test rides despite the extensive Hero network, resulting in limited slots.
  2. Riders expected more extended test rides but were disappointed with the standard 3-4km route.
  3. Test rides were restricted to those with bookings until September 25th, potentially challenging the fundamental purpose of offering test rides. Walk-in test rides were not an option.
  4. Post the initial launch and dealer network publication, Harley-Hero faced some challenges in optimizing the test ride process, especially in contrast to competitors like Triumph.

The Test Ride Experience:

During the test ride, Rajeevraj explored several facets of the X440:

  • Aesthetic appeal, including color schemes.
  • Road presence and handling.
  • Exhaust note.
  • Comfort and ergonomics.
  • Quality and finish.
  • Weight and beginner-friendliness.
  • Seating position.
  • Throttle response.
  • Clutch and gear shifts.
  • Display and connected features.
  • Heat management.

First Impressions:

  1. The X440 commanded attention on the road, boasting a substantial presence.
  2. The exhaust note struck a pleasant balance, neither overly loud nor unimpressive.
  3. Despite its initial heft, managing the bike became comfortable once in motion.
  4. The upright seating position required a brief adjustment period.
  5. Navigating through traffic was effortless.
  6. Due to a short test ride in congested traffic, evaluating throttle response was challenging.
  7. Clutch operation was smooth, and gears shifted precisely.
  8. Display and connected features stood out positively.
  9. Heating issues appeared minimal, even in heavy traffic.

Inconclusive Ride:

Rajeevraj’s test ride in heavy traffic left several aspects unexplored, resulting in an inconclusive overall experience. A more comprehensive evaluation would depend on the chosen route and traffic conditions.

Looking Forward:

As Harley-Hero continues its test ride offerings for the X440, riders are hopeful for extended and more comprehensive test rides. Despite initial hiccups, enthusiasm remains high for this latest addition to the Harley-Davidson lineup.
