GM Defense Introduces eMCV: An Electric Military Vehicle Concept Based on Hummer EV

General Motors Defense has unveiled the Electric Military Concept Vehicle (eMCV), a new military vehicle concept based on the recently launched Hummer EV. The eMCV showcases General Motors’ Defense arm’s commitment to adopting advanced commercial technologies, such as electrification and automation, in military vehicles.

The eMCV draws inspiration from the Chevrolet Silverado-based Infantry Squad Vehicle but incorporates the tri-motor powertrain from the Hummer EV. The original Hummer was a variant of the Humvee military light transport vehicle, which has been used by the US armed forces since the 1980s.

Equipped with a 200+ kWh Ultium battery pack and three electric motors, the eMCV delivers an impressive 986 bhp and a claimed peak torque of 15,591 Nm. It offers a range of over 529 km on a single charge, making it suitable for various military operations. To ensure extended range capabilities, the eMCV features a 12kW diesel generator that provides limited charging capabilities and prevents the vehicle from being stranded. With access to a DC quick-charge source, the eMCV can gain approximately 160 km of range in just 12 minutes.

The eMCV offers seating for up to six passengers and incorporates Silent Watch and Silent Drive modes, which minimize acoustic and thermal signatures. These features enhance the vehicle’s stealth capabilities and make it suitable for covert military operations.

In terms of off-road performance, the eMCV boasts Fox performance shocks, 37-inch tires, heavy-duty brakes, and improved approach and departure angles. These enhancements ensure superior off-road capabilities, allowing the vehicle to traverse challenging terrains with ease. The inclusion of a 46-inch gun ring and swing side-arm mounts further highlights the eMCV’s potential military applications.

By leveraging the technology and powertrain of the Hummer EV, General Motors Defense demonstrates its commitment to advancing the electrification and automation of military vehicles. The eMCV not only offers impressive performance and range but also incorporates essential features for military operations, making it a promising concept for future military applications.

While the eMCV is currently a concept, its introduction highlights the potential for electric vehicles to play a significant role in the military sector. As technology continues to evolve, we may see further advancements in electric military vehicles, offering enhanced performance, efficiency, and sustainability.
