Decoding the Transformation: Current Maruti Swift vs. Upcoming 2024 Swift

The Maruti Suzuki Swift, India’s beloved hatchback, is gearing up for a remarkable transformation in the form of the 2024 model. This eagerly anticipated upgrade was recently showcased at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, generating considerable excitement among Indian car enthusiasts. With the impending launch, many prospective buyers are naturally curious about the differences between the outgoing model and the upcoming 2024 Swift. If you’re one of these inquisitive minds, read on for a comprehensive breakdown.

Front Facade Evolution: The 2024 Swift introduces a fresh exterior design, starting with its front fascia. The most noticeable change is the contemporary-looking grille, adorned with a high-gloss painted honeycomb pattern, complemented by a black surround. This stylish upgrade sets it apart from the current model.

Front Headlights: The upcoming Swift showcases LED projector headlights with integrated LED DRLs, albeit with a revamped shape. This distinguishes it from the existing model. Furthermore, the front bumper has undergone a redesign, eliminating the connection below the grille. The fog lamp housings have also received a facelift, and the bonnet features a noticeable alteration.

Side Profile Enhancements: Moving to the side profile, the 2024 Swift boasts new diamond-cut alloy wheels. It ditches the concealed rear door handles in favor of conventional handles on the rear doors. A significant change is the addition of a shoulder line that extends along the entire length of the car, adding a touch of modernity.

Rear Transformation: The rear end of the 2024 Swift flaunts a fresh set of LED taillights with C-shaped brake lights, offering a contemporary flair. The rear bumper is redesigned, with three subsections for a sportier appearance. While these elements receive an update, the rest of the car maintains its classic Swift identity.

Dimensions and Platform: The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Swift will continue to utilize the Heartect platform, but with substantial improvements. In terms of dimensions, it measures 3,860 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width, and 1,500 mm in height. While the length has increased by approximately 15 mm, the height and width have decreased by 40 mm and 30 mm, respectively. The wheelbase size remains unchanged at 2,540 mm.

Interior Revamp: The interior of the 2024 Swift undergoes a significant transformation, aligning it with the more premium Suzuki models. It features a modern dashboard, reminiscent of the Baleno, Fronx, Brezza, and Grand Vitara. A prominent 9-inch touchscreen takes center stage, flanked by sleek rectangular vents, replacing the dated circular vents of the current Swift. The new Swift also adopts an automatic climate control system and a dual-tone dashboard scheme.

Front Seats and Additional Features: The Swift showcased in Japan sported sportier bucket seats with larger side bolsters. Whether these will be available in India remains uncertain. The Japanese model also featured Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and an electronic parking brake, features that may or may not be included in the Indian version.

Powertrain Updates: The 2024 Suzuki Swift in Japan was equipped with a new three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, dubbed the Z12 engine. In Japan, this engine was paired with a strong hybrid unit, delivering a remarkable fuel efficiency of around 35 kmpl. The availability of this strong hybrid engine in India remains unclear, but there’s hope for its introduction.

On the bright side, reports suggest that the new Z12 engine will make its way to India, offering an impressive 30 kmpl mileage and enhanced low-end torque.

Pricing Outlook: As for pricing, the current Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback starts at Rs 5.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.03 lakh. It’s likely that the 2024 Swift, with its enhanced features, will be positioned at a higher price point compared to the outgoing model. Precise pricing details and the launch date are yet to be disclosed, but enthusiasts can anticipate more information in the coming year.
