BMW’s Retro Revolution: The R 12 and R 12 nineT Hit the Streets in Style

BMW, a brand synonymous with luxury and performance, has once again turned heads with the launch of two new models in its retro roadster lineup – the R 12 and R 12 nineT. These bikes, set to replace the R nineT, are poised to make a significant impact in their segment, boasting advanced features and powerful engines that capture the essence of classic biking.

BMW R 12: A Midweight Cruiser Redefined

The R 12 takes center stage as a midweight cruiser that effortlessly combines style and performance. Powered by an air/oil-cooled, 1,170cc horizontally opposed (boxer) twin engine, this retro roadster delivers a commanding 95hp at 6,500rpm and a torque of 110Nm at 6,000rpm.

Designed in true cruiser fashion, the wheels feature a 19-inch rim at the front and a 16-inch rim at the rear, paired with tire sizes of 100/90-19 at the front and 150/80-16 at the rear. The braking system, impressively potent for a motorcycle, boasts twin 310 mm discs with radially mounted 4-pot calipers at the front and a 265 mm disc with a 2-piston caliper at the rear.

BMW R 12 nineT: The Evolution of a Legend

Introducing the R 12 nineT, a new variant born from the iconic R nineT lineage. While maintaining the impressive 109hp peak power of the R nineT, the R 12 nineT sees a slight decrease in peak torque to 115Nm. Weighing in at 220 kg with a 16-liter fuel tank (2 liters smaller than its predecessor), this model also features a reduced seat height from 805 mm to 795 mm.

In terms of specifications and features, the R 12 nineT retains the 4-piston radial-mounted calipers, with front discs slightly reduced to 310 mm from the R nineT’s 320 mm units. Electronic aids include cornering ABS, traction control, and three riding modes – Rain, Road, and Dynamic.

Anticipating the Arrival in India

BMW’s reputation for bringing its entire big bike lineup to India raises expectations for the imminent availability of these two new models in the Indian market. As enthusiasts eagerly await, the R 12 and R 12 nineT promise to redefine the biking experience, blending classic aesthetics with modern technology.
