Beyond Boundaries: Ford Endeavor’s Anticipated Return to Indian Roads

Ford India is gearing up for a significant comeback, aiming to reintroduce the popular Ford Endeavor SUV into the Indian market. Recent reports suggest that the automotive giant has filed a new patent in India, signaling its intent to revive sales and potentially assemble the SUV at its Chennai plant. The move comes after Ford’s exit from the Indian market in 2021, leaving enthusiasts eager for the return of the iconic Endeavor.

While details are still emerging, reports indicate two potential strategies for the reentry of the Ford Endeavor. The SUV might either be assembled at the Chennai factory or directly imported. Initial plans hint at the importation of approximately 2,500 units annually before transitioning to local assembly by 2025. Importantly, the initial imported model’s pricing is expected to surpass the current ex-showroom price range of the Toyota Fortuner, a key competitor. However, locally manufactured versions could see a competitive pricing structure once production commences in India.

Ford had previously operated two plants in India, with one sold to Tata Motors in 2022 and the other, initially planned for closure, showing signs of a revival of production activities.

The speculated price for the revamped Ford Endeavor in 2025 is estimated to start around Rs 60 lakh in India, positioning it as a premium SUV in the market, albeit significantly higher than the Fortuner’s existing price range of Rs 33.43 lakh to Rs 51.44 lakh.

The design of the new Ford Endeavor is anticipated to draw inspiration from the globally available Ranger pickup truck. It is expected to share the same platform, featuring an SUV built on a ladder frame architecture with sleek design elements, aggressive aesthetics, and robust engine options. The front design is rumored to resemble the internationally available Everest, promising a commanding road presence comparable to rivals like the Fortuner.

Although official feature details are yet to be disclosed, expectations include a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology, and various advanced features that could set it apart from the Fortuner.

In terms of power, the Ford Endeavor may source its engines from the Ford Ranger, offering a 2.2-liter turbo diesel and a 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel engine. Transmission options might encompass six-speed manual and 10-speed automatic variants, catering to both 2WD and 4WD options for diverse driving preferences, including off-road capabilities.

While the company has not officially confirmed the details, media reports hint at a potential launch of the new generation Ford Endeavor in India by 2025. Enthusiasts eagerly await further details and an official announcement from Ford India.
