Automatic Milestone: Maruti Sells 10 Lakh Auto-Trans Cars and SUVs

Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading automaker, is celebrating a remarkable achievement as it crosses the milestone of selling over 10 lakh cars and SUVs equipped with automatic transmissions in the country. This accomplishment solidifies Maruti’s position as the foremost automatic transmission car and SUV manufacturer in India.

Driving the Automatic Revolution:

The shift towards automatic transmissions has gained significant momentum in India, and Maruti Suzuki has been at the forefront of this transformation. The automaker offers a comprehensive range of automatic gearboxes, catering to diverse customer preferences.

At present, Maruti Suzuki boasts four distinct automatic transmission options, including:

  1. Automated Manual Transmission (AMT)
  2. 4-speed Torque Converter
  3. 6-speed Torque Converter
  4. e-CVT (Continuous Variable Transmission)

These transmissions are available across an impressive lineup of 16 different models within Maruti’s range.

The Leading Choice:

Among the four transmission types, the Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) reigns supreme, constituting a substantial 65 percent of automatic vehicle sales. The Torque Converters hold a notable 27 percent share, while the e-CVT stands at 8 percent, contributing to the diverse and dynamic automatic transmission landscape crafted by Maruti.

Retail Channels and Market Insights:

Maruti Suzuki operates through two primary retail channels, each making a significant contribution to the automatic transmission segment.

  • Nexa Dealerships (Premium Segment): Home to models like the Grand Vitara, Baleno, and XL6, Nexa outlets are responsible for 58 percent of automatic sales.
  • Arena Dealerships (Entry-Level Segment): Catering to models like the Alto K10, Wagon R, Swift, Brezza, and more, Arena dealerships secure the remaining 42 percent of automatic sales.

As India progresses in embracing automatic transmissions, Maruti has identified specific regions where these offerings are especially in demand. Notable markets include Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Kerala. The demand for automatic cars continues to surge, driven by evolving consumer preferences.

A Promising Trend:

Maruti Suzuki anticipates that automatic car sales will soon reach a significant milestone of one lakh units, which would represent a remarkable 15 percent of overall sales for this fiscal year. The consistent growth in automatic car sales mirrors a noteworthy trend in the Indian automotive landscape – an increasing inclination towards automatic transmissions.

This achievement not only reflects the evolving preferences of Indian car buyers but also demonstrates Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to offering a diverse and responsive range of vehicles that cater to the changing automotive landscape.
