2024 Volkswagen Tiguan Unveiled: A Paradigm Shift in SUV Design

German automaker Volkswagen has unveiled the eagerly anticipated 2024 Tiguan, marking the arrival of the third-generation of this immensely popular SUV. With over 7.6 million units sold since its debut in 2007, the Tiguan holds a special place in Volkswagen’s lineup, and the latest iteration promises to redefine the SUV segment. Let’s dive into the details of this exciting revelation.

Design Evolution One of the most striking changes in the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan is its design transformation. Departing from its boxy and angular predecessor, the new Tiguan embraces a more rounded and contemporary aesthetic. With a closer resemblance to the modern ID family, it shares design elements with Volkswagen’s electric vehicle lineup. From certain angles, it even bears a resemblance to the popular ID.4, signaling a fresh design direction for the Tiguan. While it has grown longer by 30mm, the height, width, and wheelbase remain consistent with the outgoing model. This increase in length has translated into a more capacious boot, with an additional 37 litres of storage, bringing the total to 652 litres.

Advanced Lighting and Features The 2024 Tiguan adopts the cutting-edge VW IQ.Light HD headlamps and boasts an improved drag coefficient, reduced from 0.33 to 0.28. Riding on 20-inch wheels, the SUV embraces contemporary design trends. At the rear, a sleek LED strip connects in the middle, aligning with the latest automotive design trends.

Inside the cabin, Volkswagen has made significant strides in terms of technology and comfort. A massive 15-inch touchscreen, tilted towards the driver, takes center stage. The center console features a minimalist design with a noticeable absence of physical buttons. The influence of the ID family is evident in the all-digital MID (Multi-Information Display) behind the steering wheel. The seats are equipped with massage functions, heating, and ventilation for added luxury.

Diverse Powertrain Options The 2024 Tiguan offers a diverse range of powertrains to cater to various driving preferences. Two plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) options are available, delivering either 201bhp or 265bhp, both equipped with a 19.7kWh battery offering an impressive electric range of up to 100km. Charging is flexible, with compatibility for both an 11kW AC charger and a 50kW DC fast charger. Additionally, the lineup includes a 48-volt mild-hybrid 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with cylinder deactivation, as well as a new-generation 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 200-260bhp. Enthusiasts can also opt for the 148bhp/190bhp 2.0-liter diesel engine, ensuring a powertrain choice for every driver’s needs.

Market Availability Following its grand premiere, the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan is set to hit the market in the first quarter of 2024. While Indian consumers eagerly await its arrival, the Tiguan is expected to make its India debut either late next year or in 2025, promising a glimpse into the future of SUVs on Indian roads.
