2024 Honda CBR250RR Gets Power Boost: What You Need to Know

Honda has rolled out an updated version of its popular quarter-litre sportbike, the CBR250RR, for 2024 in Malaysia, focusing primarily on engine enhancements while maintaining consistency across other features.

Enhanced Engine Performance

The heart of the CBR250RR remains its 249cc twin-cylinder engine, now capable of producing approximately 1bhp more, totaling 41bhp at 13,000rpm. This boost in power is complemented by a torque output of 25Nm at 11,000rpm. The improvements include a reduction in combustion volume from 7.5cc to 7cc, leading to an increased compression ratio of 12.1:1 to 12.5:1. Additionally, the intake port diameter has been widened from 21.4mm to 21.6mm, contributing to smoother engine response.

Transmission and Handling

The CBR250RR continues to feature a six-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch, along with the convenience of a quick shifter for seamless gear shifts. Suspension duties are managed by 37mm Showa Separate Function Big Piston forks at the front and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear, ensuring optimal handling and comfort on diverse road conditions.

Design and Features

Sporting 17-inch alloy wheels, the motorcycle incorporates a single hydraulic disc brake setup with dual-channel ABS for reliable braking performance. A distinctive blue backlit LCD dashboard provides essential riding information, while the entire lighting system utilizes energy-efficient LEDs. With a fuel tank capacity of 14.5 liters and a manageable kerb weight of 189kg, the CBR250RR maintains a balanced profile suitable for both city commuting and spirited rides.

Market Insights and Future Prospects

While Honda’s latest updates to the CBR250RR enhance its appeal in international markets like Malaysia, the model is unlikely to be introduced in India due to cost considerations in the price-sensitive market. Instead, Honda is poised to make significant strides in the adventure touring segment with upcoming launches from its 300cc lineup, including the anticipated CRF300L, CRF300L Rally, and Sahara 300 models.
