Pune: On 8th June, 2024, a significant tree plantation drive took place, organized under the noble initiative of “Mission Green Earth” by Art of Living in collaboration with the Nandanvan Volunteers group. PMC’s Tree Plantation Department @ Shivarkar Garden, provided 50 free saplings for this event. More than 45 volunteers enthusiastically participated in this event, showcasing their dedication towards creating a greener planet.
Located in Nandanvan, Wanowari, Pune, Maharashtra, this drive aimed to make a positive impact on the environment during the World Environment Day’s week. A total of 150 trees were planted during this single-day drive, symbolizing the collective effort and commitment towards environmental conservation. This event took place under the active guidance of retired irrigation department officer, Mr. Suresh Paluskar.
The selected tree species included Laxhmi Taru, Karanj, and Imli & couple more, each chosen for their unique qualities and benefits to the local ecosystem. It is worth mentioning that this tree plantation drive was not just a one-time event but part of a long-term plan. The organizers have put in place measures for the ongoing maintenance of the planted trees, including regular watering and the provision of necessary nutrients. This approach ensures that the trees have the best chance of thriving and contributing to a greener future.
In light of the changing climate patterns and the need for increased green cover, this initiative holds immense significance. The temperatures in Pune have gone beyond 40 degrees centigrade, and the increasing heatwaves, floods, and extreme weather events are becoming more evident. By participating in such tree plantation drives and supporting the maintenance activities, we can collectively mitigate the impacts of climate change and create a better, more sustainable world.
