Kia Motors is set to expand its SUV lineup with the introduction of the Kia Clavis, a sub-4-metre compact SUV positioned strategically between the Sonet and Seltos. Sources have confirmed that the new model, previously codenamed AY, will offer a distinctive design with rugged, boxy aesthetics, catering to the growing demand for compact SUVs in the Indian market.
Key Highlights and Launch Timeline
The Kia Clavis is expected to make its global debut by the end of 2024, with sales slated to commence in early 2025. The compact SUV will feature multiple powertrain options, including internal combustion engines (ICE), electric vehicles (EV), and hybrid variants. The ICE models are anticipated to hit the market before the EV version.
Production and Volume Targets
Sources reveal that Kia India has ambitious plans for the Clavis, aiming to produce nearly 1 lakh units of the AY SUV annually. Approximately 80 percent of the production volume will consist of internal combustion engine-equipped models, with a portion earmarked for export markets.
Distinctive Positioning and Design
Positioned between the Sonet and Seltos, the Clavis aims to carve a niche for itself as a lifestyle vehicle. Distinguishing it from the Sonet, the Clavis will boast a tougher, SUV-like presence characterized by a boxier design. However, it’s worth noting that the Clavis will not feature 4WD technology.
Upcoming Kia Models for India
Alongside the Clavis, Kia has exciting plans for its India lineup in the coming year. The born EV EV9 flagship and the new Carnival MPV are among the models set to join the Kia family, showcasing the brand’s commitment to offering a diverse and compelling range of vehicles.
As the automotive landscape evolves, Kia’s strategic expansion into the compact SUV segment with the Clavis reflects the brand’s responsiveness to market trends and consumer preferences.
